Yellow Breeches/ Mountain Creek, 04/25/25

First off pray for all those fighting the 1,300+ acre fire below Mt. Holly in the Michaux forest. It is big and since I was on the water today, I don’t know the latest details on the containment. I fought a fire up there years past and it is hard terrane to be working. Both Laurel Lake and Fuller Lake are close by. So you can’t fish Mountain Creek between the lakes.

Reed and I had a great day. We were on the water from 8AM until 3PM. It was hazy from the fires and by noon clouds started to roll in with the rain that is to come. It was 55 warming up to 70. The water on both streams is low. They are flowing around 53 degrees with midges and several caddis bringing a few trout up to the surface. Reed wanted first off to see just where he could access and fish. So we fished for about and hour in a few spots. I set up my Avantt II with a dry/dropper and we took off. We both wanted to stay in “Spot 1” , but we stuck to the plan. In no time he had 4 missed and landed a good brown. As luck would have it, it continued that way into lunch. After that, he switched to his Euro rod. And unfortunately the state stocked and everywhere there were parking lots full of cars. I did find a nice area with no one and I can’t remember how many rainbows he pulled in. Enough of that, so we hit Mountain creek briefly and he got into a small wild brown. Reed loved the area and the scenery of the waterways.
