Antietam/ Red Run, 04/24/25
I met up with Jim at the farmhouse and fished from 8AM until 3PM. It was a sunny and warm day. The water remains at good flow, 49-53 degrees. The deeper runs are stained and most the stream is clear. Like what has been happening same today. Plenty of midges and caddis, but by noon things go silent. Jim was an excellent fly fisherman. We fished nymphs all day on his “old school” sighter set-up. I will admit, things started slow. Not sure why. But finally he landed a nice 16” rainbow that put up a heck of a fight. Went on to get yet another and another. But the takes all but were unnoticed. This was what we had the entire day. I watch Jim change to keeping slight tension down to the fly just moving the nymphs just a tad faster than the current. It worked as he picked up another 6 more. We had a great time. He loved the water we have and is going to set up another trip with his buddy to fish the amazing fishery.
