Yellow Breeches, Conococheague, 05/17/23
Pat, Dave and I met up and we fished the breeches from 8AM until 11:30 so they could set off on their 4 hour drive back. The weather was nice to us. It was sunny, a little windy and 55 to start but warmed up to 64 degrees. The water was clear and some caddis, but not much surface activity. Pat stuck with the dry flies and Dave fished nymphs again. We still had quite the morning. They had 10 wild browns and some stocked browns. I can’t wait when Pat, Dave and I fish again next year.
Ben John was also doing a half day. The Precision guides are getting booked fast. Ben had his guys into 12 trout. So what’s the two best guides in the area to do with an afternoon off?? We fish! We hit the “Jig” and it was stained, 54 degrees and some caddis. We saw plenty of rising trout. Ben fished some wets and then switched to dry/droppers. I fished dry/droppers. I only had about 45 minutes because I have to get ready to leave for New York for a book signing at Dette’s Fly shop. I caught 3 browns in that short of a time. Ben broke off a big trout and had three browns to net when I left. All the browns were 12 to 14 inches. Streams are fishing great. Still have late May dates available and June will not disappoint as well.
