Yellow Breeches, 6/4/22
I want to thank Precision at our Lancaster shop for sending George and his son Mason to fish a full day with me today. We hit the water around 7:45AM and ended close to 3:30PM. The men were both new to fly fishing so a quick casting lesson and we hit the stream. It was a sunny day and warmed up to 83 degrees. the stream was clear and 63 degrees. There was plenty of tan caddis and some olives hatching. I started George and Mason out with dry/droppers set ups. I taught them how to approach both across stream and then upstream fly fishing. Third cast in Mason landed a good wild brown trout. We kept this up till my picnic lunch on the stream and had so many hook-ups, landed, missed and lost. After lunch, I showed them how to fish nymphs and it was game on again. George landed his first ever trout on a fly rod and Mason wanted to net it for his dad. I did not hesitate by taking my net off for Mason. It was priceless!! It was a nice rainbow. We stuck a few more good rainbows. We ended the day with an entomology lesson and how to match fly imitations to the insects, leader designs and knot tying. And Mason is a very nice fly tier, so him and I talked about that as well. I have been doing this for 28 years and Mason said something that will keep me doing this till the good lord calls me. Mason said, “ This was the best guided trip I have ever been on”. It was a great day with two awesome guys.
