Yellow Breeches 4/17/21
I picked up Matt at Precision Fly and Tackle at 8 and we fished to around 4pm. The water was still pushing hard. It is coming down slow, but only dirty. Water temperatures were in the high 40’s. We did not see any rising trout, but did see a few Grannoms in the afternoon. I explained to Matt it was the perfect conditions for some good ole fishin’ high-stick nymphing. And that worked perfect because Matt only used indicators, but was very intersted in using a sighted leader like I use. So, I set up my TFO with a 11’ leader and a double nymph rig. That was the setup we fished all day. The stream was very crowded, but I did my magic and we stayed away from that all day. From 8:30am till 1pm we had non-stop action. Matt said he lost count around 20 trout. We had three in the 20” class that got off. These trout today fought hard in the heavy water flow. We fished two nymphs, my signature BH caddis and a san juan. 98% of the trout were fooled by my BH caddis. It was a great time, good hunting stories told and good fun with a good fly fisherman.
