Yellow Breeches, 4/15/22
I finally had the pleasure to taking Joe out for a 1/2 day. It is a long story, but the short version is that when my house over 10 years ago was hit by a tornado he was the adjuster. We talked and he got a copy of “Spring Creek Strategies”, and told me that he always wanted to fly fish. Well Joe did. He came to the Lancaster show, bought a TFO rod outfit from Precision Fly and Tackle, I took him to the casting pond and taught him to cast. I told Joe, keep practicing and I will fix any bad habits. Man did he do his part. Joe learned to cast very well. We hit the water at 8AM and it was running tinted, 46 degrees and as the air warmed up from 38 degrees to 67 degrees we saw midges, and some tan caddis. I only tweak two things on his casting. I taught Joe so many things, line control, mending, high-sticking, upstream and down and across presentations and so much more. We had a blast. Joe missed at least 8 and that was just from line control, but he landed two browns and a nice rainbow. It was a great time and I’m sure I will be one the water with him again soon.
