Yellow Breeches, 10/27/23

Martyn wanted me to show Ryan the ropes now that he was interested in fly fishing. Ryan is an avid fishermen but never fly fished before. We met up and Precision at 8:30AM and fished until 12:30. It was very overcast and a little rain shower at times. The air was in the high 60’s and the water was clear and 53 degrees. We did see midges, speckled tan caddis and October caddis but very few. There were some trout rising. Martyn wanted me to focus my attention to Ryan. I put Martyn on some trout and spent most of the time with Ryan. Martyn fished with dry/dropper the entire time. I started teaching Ryan with dry/droppers with an upstream presentation. Ryan missed a few small browns and then I switched him off to upstream indicator nymph fishing and he lost two. Last we did some high-sticking and I think that was enough I could throw at him in a 1/2 day. Martyn landed 4 browns and Ryan got his first trout on a fly. It was a nice 12 inch brown. Already planning a spring trip.
