Yellow Breeches, 09/09/24

Bill met me around 8AM at Precision Fly and we fished to around 2PM. We have fished together over 25 years ago and he wanted to get out with me to be ready for an amazing fly fishing trip he has scheduled in October. He wanted me to go over everything with him, but I put Bill in challenging casting situations and he handled it with ease. I did show him a cool drop bead streamer technique that I use now and he loved the action it puts on a streamer. It was a chilly start. It was 44 and warmed to a sunny 74 degrees. The water was clear and down to 52 degrees. Around 10AM., I started to see tan caddis and tiny BWO’s hatching along with the many midges that were already in the air when we started. I set Bill, up with dry/droppers which he had never tried before. Which I then explained, ” if the dry dives under, set the hook”. That’s a take. It took him a little, but he still easily fooled 17 browns on this beautiful day. It was a great day and we talked and he is all in on taking a group down to fish my private water in 2025. I have a few dates left for Antietam. They are September 23-24, October 10-11 or October 29-31, you don’t want to miss out on this wonderful private water. This is when the wild browns are feeding heavy for the spawning. Come November we shut ALL fishing down until December. If you are interested in public water, I am available September 16-20th.
