Yellow Breeches, 07/30/24

I met up with Steve and Rick at 7:30AM and we fished to around 11AM. We spoke last week about the conditions, but Steve was already in from SC. Told them no worries lets split the full day up and when Steve comes back we’ll do another 1/2 day, so they were all in. The water was clear and only got to 66 degrees. It was partly could, but humid and 82 degrees. There was not much hatching, but the dry fly fishing was fantastic. Rick just moved to the area and now he knows he moved into a mecca of trout streams to fish. He wants me to do a stream tour at some point. Rick is getting back into fly fishing since he moved to this are with many fabulous streams. Steve was all good to go. I showed him some water to fish and he worked his way back to us. I did not take long for Rick to remember how to cast. So we just fished terrestrials the entire time. The way these wild browns rise threw them both off. It is definetly something you have to get use to. These trout do not position themselves most of the time. They attack from the bottom to the surface to feed. As with many trips this year, it makes for many misses. Steve did get a good sized brown on as well did Rick and easily 14 more wild browns fooled with my fly selections.

There is still plenty of summer trouting to be had. A 1/2 day is best and we hit the water in the morning before the sun gets high in the sky. I still have plenty of dates in August.
