Yellow Breeches, 05/30/23

Dave and his girlfriend met up with me in Mt. Holly around 9AM and we fished until 3:30PM. It was sunny and warmed from 60 to 79 degrees. The water was clear, 56 and a few caddis hatching. There were some trout rising. Both were so excited to try fly fishing. They had never held a fly rod in their life and knew noting about fly fishing. I told them don’t worry. We started with false casing and once they reach 25’ we hit the stream. It took a little bit, but they both were nailing it. I set both up with dries to start once we hit the water. We first started with casting across the stream with line mending techniques. We had lunch and I continued to talk about cleaning lines, rods and waders. We did an entomology class so they knew what insects looked like. Next was casting upstream and retrieving fly line. They did so well that I was able to get in some nymph fishing off indicators. We finished at the Precision Fly and Tackle going over questions and showing them the basics they will need to buy. It was an awesome day. They missed three and had three hooked.
