Yellow Breeches, 04/27/24

Derricx and Naomi met me at Precision Fly and we were on the water at 8AM. Derricx e-mailed me this week about dates, but was worried about the rain. WE decided to wait till Thursday and see what Saturday looks like. Well, he decided a 30% chance of rain was a go. They did not want to fish in the rain. Well, late Friday night it went to 80% and yea is started to rain come 9:45AM. The water is clear, flowing awesome and 51 degrees. Not much hatching with the weather conditions. So, I set them up with nymphs off indicators and we hit the stream. I saw Derrcix needed to work on line mending and I corrected that. Naomi only had high-sticked so casting was new. We worked on that and it was not long before she landed a small wild brown, while Derricx landed 2 rainbows and a brown. We moved downstream and they landed another 9 more rainbows and browns. We were walking upstream as the rain set in, we decided to call it. Since I knew they did not want to fish in the rain, we can do it another day. They felt bad because they thought they had waisted my time, but I told them, “Don’t”. I met two awesome Army veterans, got trout in the net and said we can do it again. In the parking lot they did say to me. “We can’t believe how much we learned in 90 minutes”. That is what it’s all about. I was going to fish, but man it did start raining. Needless to say, back to the house to fill the fly boxes back up.
