Big Springs/Yellow Breeches, 05/01/24
Unless I get booked it is the start of the Mike Heck 12 day tour of SCPA. Today I met Brian and Clint for a full day. Brain wanted to spend a little time with me on Big Springs to see where to fish and get to know how to fish the stream. It was 52 degrees and crystal clear. The beating down sun was our worst enemy. We fished from 8AM until 10AM. We fished with tandem nymphs and I watched them miss 7 takes. They were taking so light. I could see the rainbows taking, but by the time I said set it was late. We did land a small rainbow. The Yellow Breeches was another beast. It was not the sun, but a lot of anglers on the water today which was a surprise for us all. The water was perfect and clear flowing around 55 degrees. However, I knew where I could work around anglers and man did they smokes them. We still worked with nymphs, but Brian did switch up to dry/dropper and landed a wild brown. They both lost 4 trout 18+ and easily landed 20. It was a mix of a few wild browns and rainbows. On both streams we saw very little bug activity and rising trout. I’ve learned to “Go-To” the trout and you can catch them. It was an awesome day under the sun and a quite warm day. A few dates remain for May and I can get you on the water for an exceptional outing. These are the days I still have open: May 13th, 23rd, and 27th through the 30th.
