Yellow Breeches, 04/13/24

I met up with Brian and his son Arron for a full day, but we decided to do just a 1/2 day under the conditions. The water was stained and rolling hard, but very fishable. The breeches is still around 49-50 degrees and we did not see a bug hatching. It was the wind! It was partly cloudy and 58 degrees, but when half a tree fell down it was time to go. Still, I made it work and they learn much more then what they knew when they started. Brian and Arron cast well, however it was all about learning line control and mending the line correctly. We fished with tandem nymphs off indicators all morning. They moved a bunch of trout. Many did the, “long distant release” as I had the net ready. They had around 17 hooked and we landed a hand full. It was a fun day and they can’t wait to come back out again. Like they both said, “ They learned so much today”. That is what I strive for. I want fly anglers knowing more then they walked to the stream with.
