Yellow Breeches & Mountain Creek, 04/14/24

Today was such a wonderful day from me. Our “Heck” family used to get together for a Memorial Day picnic every year. Those days faded away. Well my second cousin Sarah Yocum is now interested in fly fishing and we hit the water. Her husband Jake also came along and I met for the first time today. Both are extremely athletic and I didn’t take long with a casting lesson and it was onto the water. I showed them how to fish with nymphs and indicators and explained so many other things. The weather treated us to a great day. It was 50 warming to 77 degrees. The water flow on both streams is fantastic and stained. We saw many midges and grannoms. Different tandem nymphs made for a great day. As with learning casting, mending and line control, etc., it made for a bunch of missed and lost trout. It was clear enough I could see the trout takes. Jake had two trout on and Sarah landed 2 rainbows. It was more than fun for me. Jake and Sarah flat out loved it. Sharing my passion of fly fishing with family is a blessing.
