Yellow Breeches, 04/10/23
Mike and his grandson Carter, and I met up at the Mt. Holly Fly Shop at 8 AM and we fished until 4PM. It was a cool 33 degree start but warmed up to 67 degrees under sunny skies. The water was clear 50 degrees. As afternoon approached the banks were covered with Black caddis and the trout did start rising. Both Mike and Carter are brand new to fly fishing. Mike asked me if I could open the fly shop and answer some questions on their rods and explain about leaders. So we started with that. I took them to the stream and we started with casting. They both did great and we were onto the water to work on as much as I could show them. I taught them many different fishing techniques. We started with nymphing and then progressed into dry/dropper fishing. We took a lunch break and them I taught them some simple entomology. They had any awesome day. Mike had stated to me, “ This day is all about my grandson” spend the time with him. Mike missed a few, but got more enjoyment watching Carter. Carter missed a few and had 8 more hooked but lost them while figuring out how to control the fly line. Carter did land 3 rainbows and a nice brown trout. It was so much fun being on the water.
