Falling Springs and Conococheague, 04/08/23
Mike and Brenda showed up ay my house and we fished from 9AM until 1:30 under light cloud cover. It never really warmed up like they were saying it was going to. It was breezy and hovered around 45 all day. We fished the Falling Springs first. It was clear and 50 degrees. The cooler weather has shut down the hatches. Mike high-sticked tandem nymphs in a few runs that I showed him to fish. Brenda is completely new to fly fishing so it was mostly all about her. So we started with some nymphing and line mending. We worked on line control, reach cast and much more. Brenda missed several and she landed her first trout on a fly rod. It was a nice brown trout. Mike also missed two and landed a brown and a rainbow. We departed around 11:30 and I showed them a few places to fish the “Jig”. The water was clear and much cooler. The “Jig” is back in the mid 40’s which has slowed the hatches. I showed Brenda how to fish dry/droppers. Mike kept fishing nymphs and landed another brown and a rainbow. It was a great time on the water and Brenda is so excited about her new venture into fly fishing!
