Yellow Breeches, 02/19/24
I met up with Tom and Christian for a 1/2 day of fishing. It was certainly winter fishing. It was 30 degrees and did warm to 41 degrees by 1PM. We got back to my truck and it was covered with #20 to #18 dark gray midges. Still we seen nothing rising. Tom really wanted me to just work with Christian so I did and checked on Tom from time to time. We never really did hit the breeches, but it had great flow, clear but a cold 42 degrees. So to stay in the warmer water, we hit the “Run”, which was 50 degree and we had it all to ourselves. I spotted some trout and since Christian is kind of new we just fished here with many double nymphs rigs. The takes were so light. I watched three trout take nymphs and by the time i yelled “Set” the trout had already tossed the fly. Needless to say we had 5 hook-ups but just could not get them in. They both had a great time. Christian learned a lot and I really worked on his hook-set. They are already planning an early April trip.
