Antietam Creek, 02/21/24

After I finished my 7th fly order already this week, I decided I needed to hit the stream. Then I would do my running to get ready for back to back weekend fly fishing shows. Other than guiding, it probably would possibly be the the only time I could sneak out for an hour or so. I got down to Antietam around 11:30AM and fished until 12:45pm. It was sunny and 44 degrees outside. The water was clear, flowing great and 46 degrees. I did see some midges and a few little black stoneflies. However, nothing taking off the surface. Needless to say the stream was full of anglers so I just kept walking and had an entire beat of water all to myself. I went to the little “Ole’ School’ and broke out my Orvis CFO and one of my Orvis Superfine rods that I knew could handle the lightly weighted nymphs. My Simple shrimp, MH black stonefly and my MH BH caddis did the trick. I got the fix I was needing. I landed 1 wild rainbow and several stocked trout. It felt great to get on the water.
