Falling Springs, Conococheague, 05/17/24

Bob came up and met me before 8AM at my house to fish water he use to live around. We did a lot of fishing plus I was able to show him different areas to hit later. It was 56 degrees and warmed to a damp 67 degrees. It was very dark with the heavy cloud cover. We started on Falling Springs. The water is clear and 52 degrees. We did not see a bug in the air and what trout we saw were laying dead on the bottom except for the occasional rise. Fished with nymphs and Bob landed a fair brown and lost easily 9 more. It was nothing he was doing wrong. The takes were so light, picking up to make another cast one was on the hook. These spring creek trout were trying to up the spring creek master. I switched to dry/droppers as Bob picked up a chunk brown. That was all it took and I had had enough and decided to make these trout come to me. I switched to streamers since they were just not feeding. That worked, Bob had many follows and landed a very nice brown and lost a big 17 inch rainbow.

On the “Jig” the water is still in outstanding shape. It is stained, 58 degrees and flowing heavy. We only saw a few caddis and 2 sulphurs. We started with nymphs, then dry droppers and back to nymphs. Bob had now found his groove. The rust was gone. Landed 1 brown on a nymph and 1 on a dry. Hit another spot and BAM. He lost a nice brown, had a few on and then landed a good amount of rainbows and browns. It was a very good day with a guy I have known and come to be friends with. Great group of guys at PPTU!!
