Falling Springs and Conococheague, 05/09/24-05/10/24

Roger met me at my house and 8AM and we fished until noon. The weather was damp and chilly. Some showers did start to fill in around 11AM. Falling Springs is clear and 53 degrees. The “Jig” is still flowing perfectly and 57 degrees. It was stained and nothing was in the air or hatching on both streams. Roger is learning more about fly fishing. His casting and line control was spot on. However his hook set made for several missed trout at the beginning. Once that was straighten out, he landed a nice brown and a rainbow while we were doing a stream tour of the “Jig”. They were both taken on nymph rigs. Like so many, he was simply amazed by how much water I have around me. We will be going out again soon.

I then took a little 1 hour break on 5/10 from 9 to 10AM. Just wanted to see if the rain did much. It has brought up the streams, but they are still very fishable. I still had my rod from yesterday set up with tandem nymph so I just went with that. I missed one, lost two and landed two mid-teen sized rainbow by 10:30AM then rains started, joints were not liking the damp weather, back to tie fly orders. I still have these dates for May-19th, 20th, 28th, or 30. Don’t miss out on what has turned into an amazing year with the coolest and best water flow the area has seen in years!!
