Falling Springs and Conococheague, 05/08/23
Dave arrived before 8AM and we fished from 8am until 3:30PM. The weather was sunny and a slight breeze. The day started on the 50’s and warmed up to 75 degrees. The gameplan for Dave was to see new water and catch some trout. Well we did both. Most of the catching was before lunch before we started our tour of the Conococheague. The Falling Springs was flowing normal and clear and nothing hatching. So I set Dave up with tandem nymphs and he smoked them. To say the least we lost count after 14 rainbows and browns. Three of which were in the mid to high teens. Around 11:30 we started touring the “Jig”. It is still in awesome shape. Flows are amazing and temperature ranged from 55 to 53 degrees. We did see a few caddis and sulphurs hatching and a spotty rise or two. I set another rod up with dry/droppers and he missed a good take on the caddis dry. If we would have stayed in the first beat of water we would have crushed them again. In 20 minutes of fishing Dave lost three and landed a nice rainbow. After that we hit more beats, but concentrated on the stream tour. We did get another rainbow later that afternoon. It was a great time and Dave really loved the quality of fishing and was surprised on just how much great water we have here in the Fayetteville area. We came back to my house and have a nice beverage and great conversation on the “Heck Oasis”. I have dates for late May and plenty in June open. Get out with me so you can enjoy the fantastic fly fishing we have.
