Conococheague and Falling Springs, 7/20/22
Fisher was asked to take a friend out fly fishing today. Sam wanted to see some spots he had never fished before. Sam and I are good friends and he knows the Falling Springs very well. He and I were both involved with TU and the FS Greenway. Sam picked up Fished at 7:30AM and Fisher said where it would be likely to catch trout with the warm water, but Sam wanted to see water he had never seen. Fisher said the water was low and clear, but seen so many trout. The were very spooky and really not on the bite with water being 68 degrees. They did see a few trout rising and he did get Sam on the trout. Fisher rolled one with a streamer and Sam got on with a cricket. This stream is going to be incredible come fall with the trout still in it.
I had to get some food from Windy Knoll. I took a break from fly tying and hit the end of the Trico spinnerfall on Falling Springs. I fished for just about 45 minutes. The water was clear and 53 degrees. The Trico spinners already had trout sipping off the surface. I fished with poly wing tricos on a #22 hook and picked up three rainbows and a nice 13 inch brown trout. You still can’t beat the fly fishing. South Central PA has so much cold water to fish. I’m still open for trips 7 days a week.
