John and Mark met me at my house for casting and stream instruction. They are headed to Erie for steelhead and decided to try their hand at fly fishing for them. We hit a lake below my house at 10AM and I quickly had them casting 40’ and roll-casting almost as far. Then we hit the stream. The “Jig” was perfect because it is about the same width as the Erie streams they will be fishing. The water is clear, 54 and low. But rain is coming!! I did see a few trout rising and we walked once we were finished and saw plenty more feeding. I showed them the techniques they will be using in Erie and they both said, “It was a great class and felt very confident, after being out with me, trying to fly fish for steelhead in a few weeks”. I can’t wait for the pictures.
We hung around and talked for 20 minutes or so and they took off. Since I had my rod set up, I stopped below my house and fished for about 30 minutes before headed to tie fly orders. I picked up two browns on my BH green and cream caddis. Now back at the tying vise.
