Casting lesson, 07/19/24

Well I was going to write about this morning. Morgan was Mason wanted to learn how to fly fish. We set out the game plan and well after her post, I could not write it better than she did. “My Uncle is an avid fisherman and we have enjoyed many delicious meals he has provided. His love of the sport runs deep and he has shared his passions with our family.

It was with my Uncle that I caught a shark in Lewes. Well.. catch is a unique word .. I basically just reeled as long as I could before handing it off to someone else.

Fishing can be enjoyable but I loose interest just throwing bait in and waiting for something to happen. I have heard of fly fishing and seen videos but never really knew much about it.

For my birthday this year I wanted to go to a fly fishing school. With the help of the community I was introduced to Mike Heck. Mike is an avid fly fisherman, author, guide, father, and more. In our short amount of time together Mike had us casting with confidence.

Though we didn’t venture to any streams and I certainly don’t have a photo of me holding a fish.. I am so thankful for Mike teaching us the fundamentals! With some practice at home I know I will be more prepared to visit the streams this fall.

If you or anyone you know if even remotely curious about fly fishing I would highly recommend talking to Mike. He was great at teaching me the very basics while also being able to work with Mason more in depth. We needed none of our equipment and Mike allowed us to try various rods and reels to learn what we might be comfortable with later on.

Mike’s experience and personality speak for itself. He is a wonderful mentor and now friend. I am so thankful for the opportunity to try something new and be able to learn from one of the best.”
