Big Springs, Letort & Yellow Breeches, 07/01/24
Stephen and I had fished together around 8 years ago. He wanted to check out both Big Springs and the Letort to see how I approach them. We started around 7:30AM and finished up around 3:45PM. I was very cloudy and a cool 67 degrees to start, but by 1PM the sun broke and it became 85 and humid. The waters were as followed, Big Springs-clear 53 degrees, Letort-clear and 53 degrees and the Breeches were we were 59 and clear. On all the streams just a hand-full of tan caddis. So we started to fish dry/droppers on Big Springs and then nymphs off indicators. Then I followed it up by “Stalking” trout. I just slowly walked to see if them are out from the protective weedbeds feeding. All ways produced for 3 fooled rainbows all on cress bugs. Off to the LeTort for some streamer action. Again I showed Stephen how I maneuvered streamers around the weedbeds so they can be worked down through the channels. He moved two fair browns doing so. So from there it was time to play since we had had a great educational time together. On the breeches, I set back up with dry/droppers and it was fair game on 3 good releases and two more 14 inch browns and a big 18 inch rainbow. I wanted some pictures, but Stephen wanted them back in the water ASAP. I could not agree more with how hot it became. Great time sharing my skills of spring creek angling..
