Big Springs, 5/22/22
I met up with Tom and his son Christian for a half day of fishing. They were interested in Big Springs because they had been having trouble figuring out the secrets to catching these trout. We fished from 8 to noon and by 11AM it was hot and humid. The air quickly went from 73 to 88 degrees. It was sunny and a little breeze. The stream was clear nd 52 degree. There was really not much hatching but a few caddis, BWO’s and midges. However there were trout rising to what little was coming off. I explained a little about the stream, how to approach it, techniques and some on entomology. I set both Tom and Christian up with dry droppers and man was that the ticket. Combined with the missed trout, lost trout and landed trout we easily had a 25 trout morning. We did get a nice rainbow and brook trout in the net. It was an awesome morning and can’t wait until we fish again in about three weeks. Again, I have plenty of weekdays open in June. The fishing is incredible on just about any stream I guide on right now and not seeing the anglers on the water. We had the stream entirely to ourselves this morning.
