Big Springs, 08/17/24
I met up Jeff around 7:30AM on Big Springs and we fished until noon. It was a very nice started under partly cloudy skies and 70’s. But the sun came out and it became a humid 82. The water is flowing normal, clear and 53 degrees. We saw tan caddis and some BWO’s but like this entire summer the rising trout and bugs disappeared by 10AM. Jeff was still interested in seeing a new stream to fish while he visits family from time to time. We set out with dry/droppers for his rod. Then as I saw feeding progress to the bottom, I had mine ready with tandem nymphs off a New Zealand indicator. The morning went quickly by and Big Springs did not disappoint. Jeff missed 4 on nymphs, a few more quick dry takes. Still we ended up with 8 beautiful little rainbows.
Although it has been a hot summer, the trout fishing still has been fantastic. Just have to remember the best times to start, where to go and then end as the sun angle slows the activity down. Streams are cool and primed for the rest of the year. I still can get you on the water.
