Beaver Creek, MD, 8/8/22
I was waiting at the Precision Beaver Creek shop and Carey arrived just before 8AM. We fished until noon under sunny skies. The air temperature was 74 and rising but the water was a cool 57 degrees and clear. Carey had never cast a fly rod in his life and had never caught a trout. I did a very quick casting lesson and it was all roll casting for most of the morning. I set my TFO Blue Ribbon up with terrestrials and droppers and my Orvis Clearwater up with an indicator and my Mike’s shrimp and a cress bug. We did not see anything hatching but had some rising trout. Once Carey was able to roll 20’ of line it was go time. We started just working upstream and finally a great hit. Now landing a trout was all new and after a little fight we lost a brown in its mid-teens. As we worked on dry fly and tight-line nymphing we had 5 more browns and landed a nice wild brown. Carey was so thrilled and loved the morning. The stream is still very much fishable and I have available dates to get you on this small technical trout stream.
