Beaver Creek, 09/16/23
Ed was given a Father’s day gift for a casting school/fly fishing coarse. He has a beautiful run of property on Beaver Creek, so we did the class there and then he wanted me to assess the stream. He invited his nephew Jared who is a fishing enthusiast as well. So, I got both of them casting in no time. Next we worked on leaders and the correct tippet sizes for the flies they could possibly use. I followed that by some stream techniques as we looked at the stream. His section was affected as well by the trout kill. However I did see promising signs for a recovery. There was a great trico hatch going on, plus I found abundant caddis larva, mayflies and freshwater shrimp. We did spook 5 trout as we walked up through some pools. To say the least we had a blast. We actually hung out and shot the breeze with a beverage for about 1 hour. Jared was so excited about fly fishing, he went out the next day on the Yellow Breeches and sent me a picture of his first ever trout on a fly! This will be a continued friendship for sure.
