Antietam/Red Run, 12/30/24

This has been a crazy busy year. Our private water is booking fast for 2025. Austin called me last week and wanted to get on bigger browns that he was catching while learning more tips and techniques. We started around 9AM and fished up at 1:30. It was in the high 40’s all day, off and on sunshine. The wind really picked up which made casting interesting. We were also greeted with a midge hatch and a few rising trout. I set my T&T rod up with nymphs and tied on a streamer on Austin’s rod. We ended up fishing nymphs the entire time. He had a banner winter day. He missed and rolled at least 5. I had the net ready as a 17” brown came right with the hook set. It unfortunately tossed the fly. Austin landed 5, two in the 15 inch range. He said that was what he wanted, larger wild browns. Once you fish this water, almost every one I guided wants back on it. As again for today. Austin already wants an April date for 2025. Can’t beat world class water wild brown trout water in the lower SCPA.
