Antietam Private Water, 10/08/24
Terry and Joe spent the night at the farmhouse before our trip today. We have a section we allow fishing on your own and they picked up a few browns and a rainbow. We met up before 8AM and just took our time waiting for the 43 degree air temperature to rise a bit while the sun came up. We fished until 3PM. Joe fished Euro style all day and Terry fished nymphs off indicators. The water was a chilly 52 degrees and warmed only to 56 degrees. There was not anything hatch, however there were tons of tan caddis flying around with an occasional rise. I started on the lower property and it was not long in Joe landed a small brown and missed what looked like a good one. I could tell he could fish well so I checked in on Terry. As I was walking up , I watched him releasing a nice heavy 15 inch rainbow. They both missed and landed a few more, before we moved to the farm water. They both had a few mid-teen browns lost. I have not clue how it popped off, but Terry lost one well into the 25 inch range. We did score 2, 19 to 21 inch browns. It was a tough day. Water was cold and so clear. It happens, but they were so impressed at what a wild trout fishery we have they booked a 2025 trip before leaving. I can’t wait to hang out with them again and the two others that may come to fish.
