Anteitam/Red Run, 07/10/24

I met Vince the day before around 4:30PM to welcome him to the farmhouse and where he could fish the private water that evening if he wished. We talked and he knew with the excessive heat and windy conditions with this front moving in it was gonna be tough. But Vince just wanted to explore the water catch a few to see if it was worthy for future trips.

We started at 7AM and fished to around 2PM. Yea, to say the least, sunny, hot and windy. Vince impressed me right away with his casting and knowledge. The water was normal summer low. Antietam was 64 and Red Run was 59. The birds were active and talking while we fished, but around 11:30 they went silent. Even the creek cubs stopped biting. Before I could say anything, Vince said, “ weather shut things down”. Still Antietam showed him the world class water we have and is already booking an April date for 2025. We fished with nymphs and he landed a heavy 16 inch rainbow. Then we just went all in and just fished crickets and a dropper. It happens to everyone. He lost a 20+ inch brown and then on Red Run he missed a 24+ inch pig wild brown. Vince was also inpressed on just how many trout large and small were in each and every run.

Rest of the summer, 1/2 days will be offered on our exclusive water. Come Mid-Septermer into October is when the fishing gets red hot again as the browns start running upstream. Don’t miss out.
