Yellow Breeches, Mountain Creek and Big Springs, 4/25/22
It has been about a year since Jake and I fished. This time around he wanted to do a little fishing and see new water. So these streams were our destination spots today. It was much cooler today than the past two days. It was 44 at 8AM warming to a chilly 60 by noon. Then finally the sun came out around 2:30 but brought some blustery winds. The Breeches and Mountain Creek were clear, cool and not much hatching. We fished double nymph rigs the entire time on both streams. Jake did not get a bunch, but the ones he hooked were big. On the Breeches, he missed one and lost two rainbows over 17 inches. Then on Mountain Creek he stuck another big rainbow. I tell ya this trout was not happy. It fought Jake like a steelhead. It made 2 leaps out of the water, one at least 30 inches of air up and down the run. We finally got it to net and is was a fat, thick 18 inch rainbow. From there we hit the Breeches one more time and he missed another. We grabbed a bite to eat at Keck’s Country Store and over to Big Springs. Big Springs was 52 degrees, clear with some BWO’s and abundant midges hatching. Within 90 minutes Jake missed 4 trout and landed 3 rainbows while fishing dry/dropper rigs. All and all a very successful day.
