Yellow Breeches, 08/14/23
I had an awesome morning with Jeff. We fished from 9AM until 1PM under humid and overcast skies. Jeff is new to fly fishing and Precision’s Lancaster location set him up with the perfect outfit. The stream was OK but 66 degrees and clear. It is still very much fishable. I started off with a casting lesson and before long we were on the water working on several stream techniques. We fished dry flies in different ways and then quickly fished some nymphs learning to roll cast while high-sticking. Being new to the sport, Jeff had a good morning. He missed three, lost one and we did get a brown to the net. Then “It happened” we learn from our mistakes. I put Jeff on two rising trout, and a pig pushing 18 inches destroyed a terrestrial. He was pulling, but the trout wanted nothing to do with it and snapped the tippet. It happened so quick, I could not tell Jeff to let it run. Still an awesome day and we will be headed back out this fall. Summer trouting is still fantastic and I still have plenty of dates open.
