Falling Springs and Conococheague, 05/24/23

Once a year for a few seasons now Rick always books a trip with me. It is always a great time. I show him different water each year. We met at my house at 8AM and fished until 3PM because he needed to get back home. It was sunny and quickly warmed to 75 degrees. We started on Falling Springs and it was clear and 54 degrees with nothing really hatching. I set Rick up with double nymphs and he smoked them. The takes were extremely light and he missed 8, lost a huge trout but landed over 10 nice browns and rainbows. We got off the Falling Springs around 11:30, had a great picnic lunch and fished the “Jig from 12:30 until 3PM. It was clear and 56 degrees. We had some trout rising to midges, terrestrials and caddis. We fished with both nymphs and dry/dropper set-ups. The nymphs made for one brown pushing 20 inches and somehow popped the fly out. Rick was not use to a trout that followed a dry and hit it and not used to fishing a dropper. Missed six, but ended strong with five mid-teen browns in the net. Again another double digit day on the stream. Rick and I enjoyed the day like always.
