Falling Springs, 01/01/24
Hard to believe this marks 30 years of guiding. And I start out the New Year guiding Skip for a 1/2 day. He was up from Georgia and we wanted to go out Tuesday, family commitments set us up for this day only. We knew it was not the best day but it is what it is. It was snowy and 36 degrees while we fished from 9:30 until 1:30. There was nothing hatching and I knew we would be dragging bottom to get them. Skip had never fished a true spring creek before and I explained it will be a learning time on the water. It started out a little tough as he told me, man this is technical and on the spot casting. I had set 5X tippets and a variety of nymphs as we fished. He had them fooled. He had five trout, but they came off. I told him after the second trout, “Don’t be afraid to set the hook harder”. We had a good time, both warming up. Skip definitely wants to do it again and looks forward to coming back up for more wild trout opportunities.
