Ian rolled into my house at 9AM and we fished to just after 1PM. I guided Ian last year and man he has worked so hard and has become a very good fly fisherman. As he told me, “ Mike, you have made me learn how to fly fish so I can catch trout”. Well, we stepped it up today and I showed Ian more. It was a very cool start to the day. It was sunny, but only 40 degrees and it did not get above 54 degrees. Great part was we had the stream to ourselves. We fished three different beats of water and no one was out. The stream was clear and dropped back into the mid 50’s. No caddis today, but warmed up enough that some midges and craneflies started to fly around. We fished with dry/droppers the entire time. I fine tuned Ian’s casting and then taught him some other ways to present the flies to the trout. Ian caught his first ever native brook trout. I then went downstream and we got four nice browns in the net. He also had a darn big brown toss the fly. It was a great fly fishing excursion with a super guy.

The fishing cant be any better than it is right now. I have these dates open for April and May. Then there is plenty of openings as far as the rest of the summer. April 26, 27 and 29 or May 4, 13, 24, 25 and 27-31.
