Was up at 5:30AM for our opening day trout season tradition. Fisher’s best friend “Judge” now joins us and we wanted him to finally land his first trout. We were on the “Jig” at 6AM and as 8AM rolled around so did the downpour. However, it was 57 degrees out, but we still were soaked. The water was clear, 49 degrees and a little on the low side. We fished to 10AM and nothing. So Fisher suggested a little spring creek South West of Chambersburg. Sure! I like and have guided on this stream. It always has holdover trout and little wild rainbows in it. We arrived around 10:30AM and the “Early Birds” were starting to leave. The boys shot straight to the stream. I had to switch my 16’ leader to a 9’ leader. The sun started to come out and it quickly warmed to 70 degrees. The stream was normal flow, clear and 52 degrees. There were plenty of midges hatching and a few rising rainbows. I walked up to see how Judge was doing and he had a huge smile on his face. He landed a 14” brook trout. He went on to land 1 more and Fisher landed 7. They were using all kinds of things. I fished with my BH green caddis, red san juans and orange and pink egg patterns. I ended up landing 10 mostly brook trout, 1 nice brown and a 16 inch rainbow. It was an awesome time with these young men. We ended around 1PM.
