Blue Line Fishing, 04/26/23

I finished up a fly order and before I started yard work, I decided on a needed stream break. I pulled out my 6’6” Orvis Superfine Touch rod and my CFO with 3wt. line. All the freestone streams are flowing perfect and will only be better with the several days of rain to come. The cool air temperatures are helping keep the water very cool as well. I saw a few craneflies and some caddis. I tied on a Tan caddis and my MH BH green caddis as a dropper. I was not expecting to catch many. For the past two years, I have only been catching a few in this spot where in past years I would catch many. PA fishing commission should just quit heavily stocking these fragile Class A native brook trout streams. But wow was I pleased. What a turnaround since last year. I caught 20+ little natives and was so happy to see my boyhood stream back again. I did catch one 11” rainbow and hope I don’t upset anyone, but it is now supper. We call it “Native Brook Trout” protection. Was just what I needed. It is time to look at your calendar and get out with me. These streams will fish well into summer.
