Big Springs, 03/13/25

Nick booked this 1/2 day for his son Max. Nick and I spoke well in advance of today and he said Max was new and wanted to learn how to catch wild technical trout. That’s is my guy right there! Learn to catch these spring creek trout, you are good anywhere else. So we hit the stream just before 10AM and fished to 2Pm. The water was clear and 52 degrees. A chilly 38 degrees to start and only rose to 46 degrees. Around 1PM we did see an abundance of black and gray midges, sizes 18-22. I was in my element. It felt like I talked for 4 hours straight about everything and anything that can happen, how to approach and techniques to use. As Nick said, he learned a ton while listening and watching. I worked with Max on everyway you could to successfully fish nymphs. He did an amazing job, missing 3 and landing a beautiful native brook trout. It was great to be on the water with Nick and Max and got me pumped for Lancaster.
