Beaver Creek, MD 3/19/22
I now will be one of the instructors for Precisions Fly and Tackle 101 classes. I will be hosting them at Beaver Creek and some in Mt. Holly. Ben John and I will be running the classes in Beaver Creek. The dates for the remaining classes are April 9, May 7, May 21 and June 4. Classes are scheduled for 1 to 4 students. Today I met James for his class. In the classroom I started with the proper fly rod and line and cleaning to keep the equipment performing well. Second was leader design and knot essential knot tying. I finished with a brief introduction in entomology. I told James, this will all be applied and re-enforced once we hit the stream. Outside, we started with casting lessons. I showed him the overhand cast and the roll cast. Once we hit the stream, it got real. We started with ID of the insects we found rolling rocks around and then I pulled out my fly box and explained how to pick the patterns in the box to imitate such insects. Then we fished!! I started with simple high-sticking nd then we moved on to some upstream presentations. Both James and I missed two trout. James did land his first ever trout off a fly today! I was going to head straight home, but the stream called me for 45 minutes. I went back out and fish were rising to midges. I tied on one of my CDC midges and quickly picked up 6 browns. For those who do not know, I now have my guides licenses for Maryland. I will be focusing on Beaver creek and close nearby streams. My guiding is filling fast. If you want to book a trip call me at 717-321-5160 or the Beaver Creek location at 301-393-9090 and we will get you on the calendar.
