Beaver Creek, MD 06/07/23

I was waiting at the Precision fly shop at Beaver Creek for Chris. He flew in from CA but before he left he searched and saw there was some trout fishing to be had. He set up a 1/2 day and we fished from 8AM until noon. It was hazy with all the wild fire smoke. It warmed from 57 degree to 78 by noon. The water was clear and low. We did have tan caddis bringing a few trout to the surface. Also saw some sulphur spinners. Chris traveled in with a small custom made glass rod and he was hoping to have a few hours to get out again. So I showed him the stream and how to fish it with the equipment he had. I tied a dry/very light dropper off SA 6X tippet and we started fishing. I had another rod with double nymphs just in case. We used it once. Chris had fished all over the world, but had never been successful on a spring creek. He missed the first three on the dropper. I told him that is common. It takes a few attempts and it will come. He ended up landing a wild brown and a wild rainbow. As he said to me, “What a great and successful morning.” It was a darn fun morning.
