Antietam/ Red Run, 04/19/25
I had another wonderful day with Austin. We fished this water last year and he had problems with the hook set. Austin is still learning, but now he had the hook set down and it was all about setting up to fish water given the conditions. It was overcast at 7:30AM and stayed that way all day till we ended at 3PM. The water is perfect flow of 2.7’, tinted and 44-48 degrees. There were many midges, craneflies and tan caddis hatching which made for an occasional rise. Austin like nymph fishing, so that is what we did all day. Not long in a beautiful 16” wild brown which he said made his day already. He got into so many more browns and rainbows, I lost count of how many times the net was in my hand. Next, is fighting trout. Austin had the banner “Antietam” day with 7 trout over 20+ on. These fish fight hard and have split second reactions. Still, where else can you fish and have chances of 20” wild trout just about everywhere in our water.
