Falling Springs, 11/04/23

I spoke with Linda a few days ahead of time and we decided meet at my house at 10AM and go till 2PM. She said that was perfect for her. It allowed the air to warm up to 51 degrees under sunny skies. However it was windy and Linda is new and this was a casting lesson first. The pond I usually use for a casting lesson was too windy to try. I knew with the West wind, we could find a casting spot on a stream where we were protected by a tree line. The water on Falling Springs is crystal clear and this drought has brought it down a little. There were many midges hatching and I did see a few rising trout. We did have a gust from time to time, but I got her false-casting before we moved onto other things. We worked on a roll cast next and once Linda got that down I told her, “Now work on false-casting to present the fly, but with the roll cast you can now fish productively.” The roll cast in my opinion is the MOST beneficial club to have in the bag! I then showed her some nymph fishing off indicators techniques. Linda did miss 1 rainbow. We finished back at my house and I taught her a few essential knots, leader designs and some entomology. Linda said she is going to work on her casting and I will see her again come late spring for more instruction. Linda, we all welcome you to the best sport ever!!
